Social Media Quotes Disguised as Research
One of the more ridiculous things I see in news reporting is the display of Twitter/X posts as verification of what someone said. It would make a lot more sense, and be far less disruptive of the look of the page to simply say “as posted on X” followed by whatever the politician or celebrity said. Does the reporter actually think that this looks as if they did some digging for the story? Sometimes an X page post could be useful, say to show a lie in the form in which it was perpetrated, but for the most part it is a useless appendage to a story.
